Warning! Parking Tickets

Some of you may be aware of this, but be warned. We got two parking tickets this week in the space of 24 hours. The reason was that our residents permit was due for renewal on the 20th May, but we got no reminder whatsoever. Also, the system has changed so that they work on the car registration number only. There is no need to have the plastic card visible on your windscreen.

Parking services say they only send reminders by email. As they didn’t have an email address for either of us we got no reminder. If you have no email address, then tough! They don’t bother to write to you. Apparently the onus is now on the resident to make sure we have a valid permit. The permit can be renewed online though.

Just to add insult to injury, the person at parking services cheerfully told me that we could now book my visitors’ permits online as well.  I reminded him that we lived in Central Zone and we couldn’t get visitors permits. ‘Oh’ came the response.

You have been warned !

Green Park Christmas Dinner

Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s that time of the year again. We have already seen some snow, the shops in Bath began their Christmas about 6 weeks ago, the lights get switched on this week, the Christmas market starts on the 22nd. If you need to post anything anywhere you probably should have done it by now.

Endless queues and vile Christmas music can be can make the festive season rather tedious after awhile, so at least here is something great to look forward to. This year for the Green Park Resident Christmas Party a large table has been booked at Carluccio’s Italian in Milson Place on Sunday the 16th of December at 7-7.30pm. We had dinner there few weeks ago and found the food to be good, the service excellent and most importantly a nice laid back atmosphere.

The menu has an Italian twist to it (not surprising!), which ought to make a refreshing change from traditional. You have a choice between:

  • 3 course meal for £22
  • 3 courses with prosecco and crackers for £27 and
  • 4 courses for £32.

We will be in touch later about menus choices etc, so for now please have a look on the website or call in to find out what’s on offer.

Hope as many of you as possible can make it, it should be a good night. Please let us know by leaving a comment after this post, or emailing gordon@penbryn.com
We hope to see you on the night!

Summer Party

The Green Park Residents Summer Party was held yesterday afternoon. It was a great success and for once we were lucky with the weather. Timing couldn’t have been better! Wine and conversation flowed throughout the afternoon as more and more residents arrived, many of them new arrivals to Green Park. This year we broke the record more than 25 people in attendance. A special welcome to Rose, the pug dog from no. 39. Thanks to Gordon and Ken who did the shopping ensuring we were well stocked with plenty of delicious food and drinks. And many thanks once again to Michael Clarkson from no. 20 for allowing us to use his wonderful garden. Click here to view more photos.

Green Park Cat

Today we received an email from Jake Xu, who lives at no. 37 He said:
“Dear all
I wonder if anyone know which house the white cat on our street belongs to? The cat (who is very cute and adorable, with a black face) roams the street and always bring a smile to my face every time I see him/her. However, I saw it on the street last night from my window and some idiot from number 35 ran up to it and tried to kick it off the curb (I have no idea why someone would do that except they are just ill-mannered and under educated). I felt bad for the cat and I would like to notify the owner about this
Regards,
Jake Xu”
Thank you for reporting that to our attention Jake. I cannot believe how anyone would want to abuse this small defenseless animal, who is not doing any harm or in anyone’s way. He is always very friendly and always says hello to me when I walk past.

Green Park Residents Summer Party

The annual summer party has always been a popular event with residents, so there is every reason to do it again this year! In recent years it has been held rather too late in the year, which has meant a rather chilly afternoon. This year we have decided on a provisional date of Sunday the 9th of September from 1pm onwards. Hopefully most of you will be back from holidays and will be able to join in. It will be similar to last time in the garden owned by Michael Clarkson at No. 20 Green Park. We are planning to supply some of the food and drink, but please feel free to bring extra of either/both, it always will be very welcome!

Great New Hotel But Nowhere to Park!

Town and Country Planning Acts Notification of Decision

Bath and North East Somerset Council has received an application for site below:
Site: Kingsmead House James Street West City Centre Bath Bath And North East Somerset
Description: Erection of a 177-bed hotel incorporating conference facilities, restaurant, café/bar and associated facilities, servicing and works following demolition of Kingsmead House.
Application Ref: 10/04867/FUL

Further to our earlier notification regarding the application as described overleaf, we write to advise you that having taken into account all of the representations received, the Local Planning Authority’s decision was made on 30th May 2012 and was as follows:-

Permit

Details of the decision can be found on the here on the Bath & North East Somerset Council’s website. The applicant has the right of appeal to the First Secretary of State against conditions or refusals within six months of the Local Authority’s decision.  We will endeavour to inform you if the applicant decides to lodge an appeal.

Rather definite exclusion (pp 9, 10):

Reasons for granting permission:
The decision to recommend approval has taken account of the Development Plan and any approved
Supplementary Planning Documents. The development would accord with guidance within PPS 1,
PPS 4, PPS 5 and PPG13. The loss of the existing office accommodation has been justified in the
context of Local plan employment policies. The use of this city centre site as a hotel is an appropriate
use which accords with policy guidance. The removal of the existing building and the erection of this
replacement building would enhance the character and appearance of the Conservation Area and
would not harm the setting of listed buildings or the World Heritage Site. The proposal to not provide
on-site car parking is consistent with Local Plan and National Policy and the objectives of
sustainability. Highway safety would not be jeopardised by this proposal.

Thanks to Gillie Fisher and Brian Darvell for your contributions here!

Way to Go, Gillie!

I can’t believe I’m attempting this again, and if you’d have seen me staggering round the 6½ miles I managed on Sunday you wouldn’t be able to believe it either!!  Which is pretty much why I’ve decided to start campaigning for some fund raising motivation.  If you think I don’t deserve it for the miles of training I’m putting in, you might be impressed by the fact that I haven’t had a drink since New Year’s Eve!!  And won’t until after the half – I’m taking the following week off to get over the hangover!!

So, if you want to encourage an old girl to wobble her way round 13.1 miles on a cold March morning and raise money for some inspirational kids, please click on the link to my Just Giving page. The Bath Half is on the 11th of March, 2012.

Thank you very much

Gillie

Local Drug Ring Uncovered

Anyone know a Johnathan Hart living on Green Park? It appears that he and resident of Widcombe were both discovered in 2 separate large scale drug dealing operations. Significant amounts of cocaine as well as caffeine and lidocaine were found in a police raid at Hart’s house in Green Park back in February. Unable to convince the jury that he intended to use them to make high energy drinks he was recently found guilty of possession with intent to supply and locked up for 6 years. I guess that means he won’t be coming to any of our neighbourhood events in the near future…
